The Cadillac name is synonymous with luxury, and the XT range is the American manufacturer’s attempt to add an extra touch of refinement and sophistication to the SUV market. It’s easy to see why SUVs are so popular — a commanding driving position that gives a better view of the road, tons of cargo room, more safety, and better ability to handle bad weather conditions are just some of the reasons so many Americans choose to buy one.

The XT4, XT5, and XT6 are different SUV models within the Cadillac lineup. Check out the differences and similarities between these Cadillac SUVs, and then find the one that sounds best to you in our new or used inventory.

Cadillac XT4: Key Features

The Cadillac XT4 is the smallest SUV in the Cadillac lineup and it slots into the subcompact crossover SUV category. The XT4’s first year of release was 2019, and it has received positive reviews from both industry professionals and amateur auto enthusiasts. The 2021 XT4 comes in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport.

The XT4’s exterior has a stylish design with sharp edges throughout, giving it a refined and chiseled appearance. The Sport trim level adds blacked-out accents to the exterior for a variation that you might enjoy. The three trims all come with the same powertrain, which is a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The engine outputs power ratings of 237 horsepower and 238 pound-feet of torque.

In the trunk of the XT4, you get 22.5 cubic feet of space for your things. The cargo space extends to 48.9 cubic feet with the back seat folded down. The infotainment system is impressive in its depth of features. With all models, you get an 8-inch touch screen with Cadillac’s CUE software installed on it. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot are all standard infotainment features. A seven-speaker audio system is standard, but you can upgrade that to a premium 13-speaker Bose system.

Key driver safety features with the XT4 include forward-collision warnings and automatic emergency braking. You can optionally add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts and adaptive cruise control. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the XT4 a maximum five out of five stars in its safety assessment.

As the smallest of these three SUVs, the XT4 is best suited for either couples or small families. Smooth handling, a polished engine, and an impressively responsive brake pedal are some of the other main reasons to buy.

Cadillac XT5: Key Features

The XT5 is a mid-size luxury SUV that has graced American roads since the 2017 model year. As a mid-size, the XT5 is larger than the XT4; however, its seating capacity remains the same at five people. The difference in size comes down to space — the XT5 simply has more room. The XT5 has 41.2 inches of legroom in the front row and 39.5 inches in the back row. Cargo space is 32.2 cubic feet in the trunk and 63 cubic feet with the back row folded.

The Cadillac XT5 comes in the same trim levels as the XT4. The first two trim levels come with the same turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that powers the XT4. A slight difference is that the highest trim level has a more powerful 3.6-liter, V6 engine as standard. The 3.6-liter engine outputs 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

With the base XT5, you can expect features including 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated front seats, and faux leather upholstery. There are four USB ports and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The infotainment system on the XT5 is the same as the XT4. Higher trim levels add more elements of style and functionality, including genuine leather upholstery, a wireless charging station, a panoramic sunroof, and interior ambient lighting.

Overall, the XT5 is similar to the XT4. It’s worth getting the XT5 if you want to avail of the more powerful engine and you think you’d benefit from the additional space. Both vehicles are solid choices for couples and small families.

Cadillac XT6 Key Features

The Cadillac XT6 is the largest of Cadillac’s three available crossover SUVs. The XT6 has three rows versus the two rows of the XT4 and XT5. The additional row means the XT6 has a maximum seating capacity of seven people. If you opt for second-row captain’s chairs, the seating capacity reduces to six people.

Like the XT4 and XT5, the XT6 has a sharply lined facade. The patterned grille also looks the part. The XT6 has a notably larger and longer body than the other two crossover Cadillac SUVs. The XT6 is available in the same three trim levels as the XT4 and XT5: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport.

The base trim level comes with the same turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the XT5 and XT4, which outputs 237 horsepower and 238 pound-feet of torque. Included with the other two trim levels is a V6 engine outputting 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed transmission is standard with both engines.

The XT6 comes with 20-inch wheels as standard, and the wheels increase to 21 inches with the Sport trim. Inside, all XT6 models come with wireless charging. The infotainment system is the same as the XT4 and XT5. An optional rear-seat entertainment system provides a value-for-money option to keep all the family entertained during lengthy journeys.

Standard safety and driver assistance features include automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. You can upgrade to advanced offerings like adaptive cruise control and night vision. The maximum cargo space is 78.7 cubic feet with both the second and third rows folded down.

The main reason to opt for the XT6 is if you have a large family or you need to make use of the higher maximum cargo space.
